Over the past few weeks, a clutch of articles based on our Mapping Online Publics research have finally seen the light of day:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I&#8217;ve converted my exploration of dynamic @reply network mapping methods (detailed in a series of blog posts starting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mappingonlinepublics.net\/dev\/2010\/12\/30\/visualising-twitter-dynamics-in-gephi-part-1\/\">here<\/a>) into an article in <em>Information, Communication &amp; Society<\/em>: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1080\/1369118X.2011.635214\">How Long Is a Tweet? Mapping Dynamic Conversation Networks on Twitter Using Gawk and Gephi.<\/a>&#8221; In the article as well as in the original blog posts, I&#8217;m using the 2010 Rudd\/Gillard Australian Labor Party leadership spill &#8211; #spill on <em>Twitter<\/em> &#8211; as a case study.       <br \/>&#160; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our detailed examination of how the subsequent Australian federal election at the end of August 2010 played out on <em>Twitter<\/em> (under the #ausvotes hashtag), based on a series of blog posts starting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mappingonlinepublics.net\/dev\/2010\/09\/01\/trends-on-ausvotes-during-the-australian-election-pt-1\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mappingonlinepublics.net\/dev\/2010\/11\/24\/election-2010-the-view-from-twitter\/\">presented at the InASA conference in Sydney<\/a> almost exactly a year ago, has just come out in a special issue of <em>Communication, Politics &amp; Culture<\/em>, as &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/search.informit.com.au\/documentSummary;dn=627330171744964;res=IELHSS\">#ausvotes: How Twitter Covered the 2010 Australian Federal Election.<\/a>&#8221;       <br \/>&#160; <\/li>\n<li>Finally, stepping back from methods and case studies to consider the broader implications of real-time social media for journalistic practice: my keynote at the SBPJor conference in Rio de Janeiro at the start of November has now also been published (in English, alongside the other English-language keynotes) in the <em>Brazilian Journalism Research<\/em> journal, as &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/bjr.sbpjor.org.br\/index.php\/bjr\/issue\/view\/21\">Gatekeeping, Gatewatching, Real-Time Feedback: New Challenges for Journalism.<\/a>&#8221; The keynote itself (with audio) is online at <em><a href=\"http:\/\/snurb.info\/node\/1626\">snurb.info<\/a><\/em>.       <br \/>&#160; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Full details on all our outputs on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mappingonlinepublics.net\/dev\/publications\/\">publications<\/a> page, as always.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s (almost) it for 2011, I guess &#8211; from floods to fabulous new research collaborations, it&#8217;s been some year&#8230; Let&#8217;s hope 2012 turns out to be slightly more sedate. As you already know, we&#8217;ve got <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mappingonlinepublics.net\/dev\/2011\/11\/01\/new-arc-linkage-project-social-media-in-times-of-crisis\/\">a new research project into the use of social media in crisis communication<\/a> starting early in the year, in partnership with the Queensland Department of Community Safety and the Eidos Institute &#8211; more on that as it picks up speed. For now, here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qut.edu.au\/about\/news\/news?news-id=38008\">a QUT news story<\/a> which has the key details.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, heartfelt congratulations to Mapping Online Publics team member <a href=\"http:\/\/timhighfield.net\/\">Tim Highfield<\/a>, who was today awarded a PhD for his study of the Australian and French political blogospheres.
