{"id":737,"date":"2011-06-27T21:28:17","date_gmt":"2011-06-27T11:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mappingonlinepublics.net\/dev\/2011\/06\/27\/the-world-according-to-twitter\/"},"modified":"2012-04-10T14:00:57","modified_gmt":"2012-04-10T04:00:57","slug":"the-world-according-to-twitter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mappingonlinepublics.net\/dev\/2011\/06\/27\/the-world-according-to-twitter\/","title":{"rendered":"The World According to Twitter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow, our Mapping Online Publics project team is hosting the public research workshop <em>The World According to Twitter<\/em> at QUT, in collaboration with our visiting researchers Katrin Weller and Cornelius Puschmann from the <a href=\"http:\/\/nfgwin.uni-duesseldorf.de\/en\/node\/21\">Junior Researchers Group &quot;Science and the Internet&quot;<\/a> at the University of D\u00fcsseldorf, Germany. The workshop is the first major event in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mappingonlinepublics.net\/dev\/2011\/06\/20\/project-update-and-press-release\/\">our two ATN-DAAD research projects<\/a> with colleagues in D\u00fcsseldorf and M\u00fcnster, and should provide a great starting point for a very exciting research programme. We&#8217;ve already spent most of the past week in intensive research sharing mode with Katrin and Cornelius, and you&#8217;ll see some of the first outcomes of our brainstorming activities appear on this blog soon.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, though, is all about taking stock of where the still very nascent area of <em>Twitter<\/em> research is at. We&#8217;ll be making our contribution to the programme by looking at some of our key outcomes from the past year or so &#8211; especially, of course, our work on the use of <em>Twitter<\/em> in crises like the Queensland floods &#8211; as well as giving a first preview of what&#8217;s coming up later this year.
