{"id":153,"date":"2010-08-12T19:20:59","date_gmt":"2010-08-12T09:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mappingonlinepublics.net\/dev\/?p=153"},"modified":"2012-04-30T13:22:26","modified_gmt":"2012-04-30T03:22:26","slug":"top-20-election-related-youtube-videos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mappingonlinepublics.net\/dev\/2010\/08\/12\/top-20-election-related-youtube-videos\/","title":{"rendered":"Top 20 election-related YouTube videos (according to Twitter)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Update: this analysis covers a few less days than I originally stated &#8211; the results should look quite different once we add in this week&#8217;s links (and next week&#8217;s!).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Here are the top 20 Australian election-related YouTube videos <del datetime=\"2010-08-12T23:28:44+00:00\">so far<\/del> up to last Friday morning, according to the Twitterati. Or to be more precise, here are the 20 videos which have been linked to the most in tweets containing the #ausvotes hashtag posted between 17 July and 6 August, according to the Twapperkeeper archive.<\/p>\n<p>Couple of interesting things to note:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the mismatches between the Twitter link rankings of some of these videos with the number of views they have received on YouTube;<\/li>\n<li>the low numbers of links generally (could be a glitch with the scripts, but I&#8217;m reasonably confident it isn&#8217;t)<\/li>\n<li>the reasonably solid performance of &#8216;made-for-web&#8217; comedy videos performed and\/or produced by professionals<\/li>\n<li>the high retweet value of &#8216;official&#8217; campaign videos (in which I&#8217;d probably count GetUp!) &#8211; although it&#8217;s important to note that the tweets that go alongside the videos are frequently less-than flattering&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>and if I may add a personal note, the only mild sharpness or funniness of even the sharpest and funniest of these videos&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n\n<table id=\"wp-table-reloaded-id-2-no-1\" class=\"wp-table-reloaded wp-table-reloaded-id-2\">\n<thead>\n\t<tr class=\"row-1 odd\">\n\t\t<th class=\"column-1\"><\/th><th class=\"column-2\">Video Title<\/th><th class=\"column-3\">Twitter links<\/th><th class=\"column-4\">YouTube views <br \/>\r\n(as at 12\/08\/10)<\/th><th class=\"column-5\">Notes<\/th>\n\t<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody class=\"row-hover\">\n\t<tr class=\"row-2 even\">\n\t\t<td class=\"column-1\">1<\/td><td class=\"column-2\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pJTX0iWYX9A\">Tony Abott's archaic views<\/a><\/td><td class=\"column-3\">64<\/td><td class=\"column-4\">45477<\/td><td class=\"column-5\">GetUp! For that, I&#8217;ll need a different approach entirely &#8211; more on that later, I hope.<\/p>\n<p>Even given all that, as someone with <a href=\"http:\/\/creativitymachine.net\/youtubebook\">a fair bit of interest in YouTube<\/a>, the list strikes me as less than electrifying. Where are the shocking, witty, cute or downright game-changing videos that the Twitterati has missed? Or is there just something deadeningly uninspiring (to critique or comedy alike) about this whole election?<\/p>\n<p>How I did this: in short, with a lot of help from some very clever scripts, for which I mostly have Axel to thank.
